ItÕs
two hours Ōtil the battle is scheduled to start, and itÕs time to wake the
troops. I go from tent to tent, calling them by name. Oswulf and Sean emerge,
nursing hangovers from the night before, and stagger off to the Port-O-Johns.
IÕve been up since dawn, stretching and preparing for the day. I munch on a granola
bar as I put on my armor. Targe, having slept in his armor, is the first one
ready for battle. Oswulf returns, lights a cigarette, and downs a Pepsi.
Minutes later, heÕs all geared up and ready to go. We pile the swords, shields,
and pole arms by the camp entrance, while Brenna gets duct taped into her leg
armor. Now we wait for John the Gray to come by with his pickup truck, to ferry
us to the field.
Before
you fight, you must first wake up. If you are not the kind of person who wakes up
with the sun, it is vital to have an alarm or a friend to awaken you with
sufficient time to reach the field.
Fighting
on a full stomach is bad. Eat only light foods before a battle like a piece of
fruit, a granola bar, power bar, Pepsi, or similar.
Go
to the Port-O-John before putting your armor on.
Get
your gear together and make sure you have everything. This includes a roll of
duct tape.
Make
sure you have your Fighter Authorization Card. YouÕll need it for armor
inspection.
Leave
all of your live steel in camp. Enough said.
