On Foreign Ground: Or, I broke through, now what?

I finally catch up to the back-pedaling spearman. My drop shot solidly connects with his helm. He raises his spear in surrender, too out of breath to speak. I spin back towards the sound of battle, only to realize that I am behind my enemies. I spot CedricÕs blue and yellow surcoat as he desperately tries to fend off an advancing shieldman. Charging to my friendÕs aid, I halt just behind his opponent. Hooking his sword with my own, I pull his weapon to the side. Cedric swings his polearm in a great overhead arc, clubbing the offending, but now defenseless shieldman.

Run down unprotected spearmen. ItÕs fun, and useful.

Warning - In the backfield you are outnumbered. Keep moving so they canÕt gang up on you.

No striking from behind! You can only strike from the front arc - unless the opponent acknowledges you. Tap your enemy on the head or shoulder and say, ÒMÕ Lord!Ó As soon as he makes eye contact, beat him like a redheaded stepchild. If he swings at you, he has also acknowledged you.

Alternately, if you are back to back with your enemy, back up until he is in your front arc.

Pin someoneÕs weapon. From behind your enemy use your sword to pin his sword against his body, or out of the way. Keep it there Ôtil one of your brothers kills him.

Note - grappling is not permitted; a pin can be accomplished with very little physical contact.

Some kingdoms do permit Òdeath from behind.Ó Check with your local Marshal to confirm your kingdomÕs rules.
